Advertise with Prop Weekly
We sell advertising. We do not sell coverage. This page sets out exactly where that line sits, so nobody has to negotiate it later.
Everything paid is labelled
A paid placement carries a label above the headline — not under the byline, and not at the foot of the page. Beneath it sits a plain sentence saying what was bought, naming the company that paid, and stating whether they had approval over the final copy. That disclosure is part of the article record, so it appears on every view, in the markdown version, and in the page’s structured data. It cannot be removed later.
We use three labels, and they mean different things: Paid content (the buyer paid for the article to exist), Produced with a partner (a commercial partner supplied data or access, we wrote it and kept final say), and Affiliate review (our own review of a firm we may earn a commission from).
Every advertiser link is nofollowed
Links to a paying advertiser carry rel="sponsored nofollow noopener". The publishing system applies it, not an editor, so it cannot be forgotten on one piece. If the point of the placement is to pass ranking signal, we are the wrong publisher and we would rather say so now.
Paid pieces stay out of the feeds
Bought articles do not appear in our RSS or Atom feeds, or in the “latest” and “most read” rails — those are what a reader subscribes to expecting editorial. They do stay indexable and stay in the sitemap: a labelled advert hidden from search would be cloaking, which is a worse problem than the one it solves.
What we will not sell
- Followed links, or any placement whose value depends on passing ranking signal.
- Undisclosed placements, or a paid piece styled to read as a news story.
- A position in a ranking, a comparison, or a “best of” list.
- The removal, editing or softening of coverage we have already published.
- Advance sight of a story about you, or a veto over one.
- Any placement attacking a competitor, or aimed at a firm that is not the buyer.
- Placements for firms we have reason to believe are not paying their traders.
Editorial independence
Buying a placement has no effect on our other coverage of you. It does not remove a story you dislike, does not change what a rule-change entry records, and does not buy you a warning before one is published. If a firm that advertises with us does something newsworthy, it is reported the same way as any other. How stories are sourced and corrected is set out in our editorial policy.
Rates and availability
We do not publish a rate card, because what a placement involves varies too much for a number on a page to mean anything. Email contact@propweekly.com with what you have in mind and we will tell you whether it is something we sell, and what it would involve. If it is on the list above, we will say no — and we will say so quickly rather than talk you round.
Frequently asked questions
Can I pay to have a story written about my firm?
You can buy a clearly labelled paid placement. You cannot buy an editorial story, a review score, a ranking position, or a mention inside an unrelated article. A paid piece carries a "Paid content" label above the headline and a disclosure line naming you, on every view, permanently.
Will links to my site pass SEO value?
No. Every link to a paying advertiser carries rel="sponsored nofollow noopener". This is not negotiable and it is applied automatically by the publishing system rather than by hand, so it cannot be forgotten on a particular piece. If a followed link is what you are buying, we are the wrong publisher.
Do paid articles appear in your RSS feed and newsletter?
No. Bought articles are excluded from the RSS and Atom feeds and from the "latest" and "most read" rails, because those are things a reader subscribes to expecting editorial. They remain fully indexable and stay in the sitemap — hiding a labelled advert from search would be cloaking, which is a different and worse problem.
Can advertising influence how my firm is covered elsewhere on the site?
No. Buying a placement does not change what our other coverage says about you, does not remove a story you dislike, and does not buy advance sight of one. If a firm we take money from does something newsworthy, we report it the same way.
What will you not sell?
We will not sell followed links, undisclosed placements, "sponsored" pieces written to read as news, positions in a ranking or comparison, the removal or editing of existing coverage, or anything aimed at a firm that is not the buyer. We also decline placements for firms we believe are not paying their traders.
